ENDV 101 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ECOLOGY I  (2,1,2)
This course will explain the basic principles of ecology and ecosystem essentials and how energy and matter are circulated within typical ecosystem. It will further examine global and national concerns on the problem of environmental degradation and pollution, from the ecological perspective. Causes of environmental degradation and solutions for restoring ecological integrity will be examined. Field studies are essential in this course.

ENDV 103 INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL ENVIRONMANETAL SYSTEMS I (2,1,2)
The objective of course is to introduce students to the study of the physical environmental systems with reference to influencing agents and processes. Topics include components of physical environmental systems, introductory development of environmental thought, rock types, structure of the atmosphere, and basic processes that result in patterned structures in the earth systems.

ENDV 105 ELEMENTS OF ECONOMICS I (2,1,2)
The course offers students the opportunity to be introduced to economics including definition, nature and scope of the subject matter. Basic micro economic principles of demand and supply; market equilibrium and disequilibrium conditions are analyzed. Demand and supply elasticities; measurement and interpretations of elasticities. The consumer demand theory; law of diminishing marginal utility; the budget line; equilibrium of the consumer. The theories of production, cost, marginal productivity and the firm, as well as the equilibrium of the firm. The theory of (resource) distribution and the basic analysis of market structures.

ENDV 107 SOCIOLOGY OF DEVELOPMENT (2,1,2)
This course is an introduction to the sociology of development, looking at the theories, perspectives and nature of development of the Ghana, its relationship to the global north, and major explanations of underdevelopment. The key role of colonialism in the origins and transformation of the local system is examined, as well as its importance in the construction of development theories and strategies. Case studies from around Ghana and Africa are used to critically evaluate development issues (e.g. gender, environment, health, education, fair trade, etc.) and the alternative paths of development.

ENDV 109 INTRODUCTION TO POPULATION STUDIES I (2,1,2)
This course is a general introduction to the study of human populations and demographic methods. There is a strong orientation towards understanding basic demographic concepts, fertility, mortality, and migration, which have served as principle forces for social change within the family, community and society. Students would be taught. As world population grows beyond the six billion plus mark, issues of resource constraints, natural disasters, conflict, and environmental changes and food crisis become very critical.

COMP 153 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS I (2,1,2)
The course will treat the following aspects as; what is a Computer? the Classification of Computers. Hardware-Memory, Central Processing Units, Input and Output Devices and Software– Systems will be treated. Applications, Utility, Translators, Programming languages and others will be examined.  Also, the functionality of the different operating system (DOS) and Windows will be explored. Word Processing Software: Microsoft Word.

STAT 155: STATISTICAL METHODS I (2, 1, 2)
Introduction: Nature and Uses of Statistics; Some Basic Concepts of Statistics. Data Collection: Types of Sources of Data, Data Collection Methods and Questionnaire Design. Descriptive Analysis of Data: Organisation and Presentation of Data; Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Quartiles, Percentiles, Skewness and Kurtosis. Elementary Probability Theory: Random Experiments, Definitions of Terms and Measure of Probability. Some Basic Laws of Probability involving Compound Events. Computation of Probabilities involving, Simple Events, Application of Counting Techniques and Decision Problems. Random Variables and Probability Distributions: Concepts of Random Variables; Definition and Properties of Probability Distribution, Expectation, Median and Variance of Random Variables; Application to Decision Problems.

ENGL 157 LEXIS AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS I (2,1,2)
The course takes all first year students through a review of English grammar, and is a required course for all first year students of ACU.  Students will be assisted to review some of the common problem areas of their writing, such as verb/tense system, concord, sentence construction and paragraph organization.
